The FluMist® nasal spray has been used safely and effectively globally, in countries like the US and UK for many years and is now approved in Singapore.
How does it compare to the usual needle vaccine?
The effectiveness of FluMist® is comparable to the injectable vaccine, though efficacy can vary by season and age group. Both are designed to provide robust protection against the circulating strains.
FluMist® is given as a gentle spray divided between both nostrils. There is no needle or injection involved.
Who should NOT take FluMist®?
FluMist® should NOT be given to:
Children or adolescents receiving aspirin or salicylate-containing therapy.
Individuals with a history of severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine or to eggs.
Individuals with a history of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) within 6 weeks following a previous influenza vaccination.
