Frequently Asked Questions
What if I cannot remember whether I have received the Pneumococcal vaccine?
- Refer to your immunisation record here
- Check with your regular clinic
- Continue to make your appointment and let our doctor assess you prior to your vaccination
Can I obtain the Pneumococcal vaccine and Flu vaccine at the same time?
Yes, it is possible for you to do so. Our doctor will typically inject the vaccine on separate arms, and will advise you prior to the vaccination.
Do I take 1 dose or 2 doses?
If you are 65 years or older:
You now have the option of one dose of PCV20, which provides broad coverage in a single shot.
Alternatively, you may still receive one dose of PCV13 followed by one dose of PPSV23, as per the previous recommendation.
If you are 18–64 years old with chronic medical conditions or immunocompromising conditions:
You may be advised to take PCV20 (single dose) or the PCV13 + PPSV23 sequence, depending on your health status and vaccination history.
Your doctor will guide you on the most suitable option based on your age, medical conditions, and any past pneumococcal vaccinations.
Can I book an appointment if I have not reached 65 years of age?
We are able to conduct the Pneumococcal vaccination if you are under the age of 65. However, you will not be eligible for CHAS subsidies, unless you are deemed medically eligible.
It is thus not possible for you to book an appointment on the health appointment system if you are less than 65 years of age. You may however visit our clinic, so that our doctor can advise on your suitability accordingly.
What should I be careful of before taking the Pneumococcal vaccine?
Inform our doctors if you have past allergies to this vaccine, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a history of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
